The U.S. Department of State will host a town-hall style meeting on the modernization of the Columbia River Treaty with Canada on Monday, December 16, in Richland, Washington. The meeting will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Federal Building Auditorium, 825 Jadwin Ave.
The United States and Canada currently are discussing modernizing the 1964 treaty. Jill Smail, the lead U.S. negotiator, will lead the meeting. The Washington office of the Council is helping the U.S. State Department organize the meeting.
Persons attending the meeting will be screened at the door and must provide government-issued photo identification. At the meeting, U.S. government representatives will provide an overview of the negotiations and take questions from the public. Questions may be sent in advance to ColumbiaRiverTreaty@state.gov.
