Fuels: A State of Transition
Against the backdrop of soaring fossil fuel prices due to the war that Russia is waging on Ukraine, a transition to cleaner fuels is underway in the Northwest that will touch nearly all aspects of the economy.
Steven joined the Council in May of 2012. Currently he is the lead on electricity demand forecasting for the Power Division. In his time at the Council, he has led analytic and forecasting work on electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel, natural gas, and renewable resources – solar, wind and geothermal. He has also led the modeling efforts on greenhouse gas emissions from the oil and natural gas industry, in particular upstream methane emissions. He is chair of the Demand Forecasting Advisory Committee and past chair of the advisory committees for both Fuels and Generating Resources.
Prior to joining the Council, Steven led Integrated Resource Planning for NW Natural, a natural gas utility based in the Northwest. As a senior engineer and manager in the semiconductor industry, he led forecasting efforts for Micron Technology and LSI Corp and holds multiple patents in microchip manufacturing.
Steven earned a B.S. in Systems-Control Engineering from the University of California at San Diego, and an M.S. in Mathematical Modeling-Environmental Systems from Cal Poly Humboldt University, focusing on the development of ecological models.
